Trash Mining is Good Business

A one-of-a-kind workshop series called “Mining for Golden Business Ideas” was offered in Santa Fe last year, to introduce creative and innovative business ideas for recycled materials. Offered by the City of Santa Fe Solid Waste Division and Covington Consulting, the class started with a tour of the landfill and the new recycling center known as BuRRT. Participants were introduced to existing business ideas around the country that are already making a profit from what formerly went into landfills. The class learned about natural systems design principles and were provided guidance on how to incorporate new recycling ideas into existing businesses.
